National Junior League division 1 title

Attached is a photo from last saturday of our victorious Southend and District junior league team collecting their medals after clinching the National Junior League division 1 title for this season held at Ellenborough Table Tennis Club in Enfield. The team consisted of Owen Warren, Leon Smart, Sam Chesher and also Paul Sims who played on the first of the 2 days over which this event was held, with Sam Chesher playing on the second day.

The team went into their final match against the hosts of Ellenborough 'A' trailing the Chelmsford League Team by 1 point, but produced the goods with a 9-0 victory, and Chelmsford could only manage a 6-3 win, meaning a final 2 point winning margin for our boys.

Owen finished second and Leon third in the individual player averages for the competition, but I have to say that this was a complete team effort with all 4 boys working hard over the 2 days to achieve the team's success. And also much credit should go to Jim Stait for all his efforts in running the S & D junior team this season.

By winning the national junior league division 1, it means that the Southend and District Juniors can now apply to put a team into the qualification stages for the British Junior League for next season.

Best Regards
