Derek Hunnibal

It is with much regret that I have to advise the sudden death of Derek Hunnibal on Wednesday evening (11th May).

Derek had very recently been diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus. He was very positive when hearing this news. After his first course of chemotherapy he was still looking forward to the up and coming Summer League games, and even had a practice at our clubhouse only the Thursday before he died.

Whilst in hospital for his second course of treatment Derek became very short of breath. He collapsed and, despite their best efforts, the staff were not able to revive him.

Derek was an avid table tennis player and had been playing in the SDTTL since 1950. He represented Southend in the Super Vets league. He was also a keen tennis player, belonging to Southend Lawn Tennis club for many years. He was also a massive Essex County Cricket Club supporter. He will be greatly missed by all at Invicta TTC and all those that came to contact with him in the SDTTL. All who came into contact with Derek will remember him for his unique brand of humour.

His funeral will take place on Friday 20th May at 2pm in the Large Chapel of the Southend Crematorium. All his friends will be welcome.
