Hullbridge TTC: National Cadet League 2010-2011

Junior players at Hullbridge TTC are, for the first time in the club's history, competing in the National Cadet League. They will play in four days of competition against other clubs at Kemnal TTC in Sidcup, Kent. Their first fixtures were played on Sunday, 10 th October, when they competed in the National Cadet League Division 2 against Kemnal TTC B', Bishop Challenor TTC A' and Eastlea TTC A'.  Hullbridge TTC's young players, Sam Lowman, Shannon Rolfe and Sid Dorn were accompanied by Team Coach and Manager, Howard Grant.

The team made an excellent start to their National Cadet League campaign, beating Kemnal TTC A' 6-3 and Eastlea TTC A' 5-4, only narrowly losing 4-5 to Bishop Challenor TTC A'. After a nervous start, Shannon Rolfe found both her confidence and form, securing an outstanding win against the top ranked Kemnal TTC B' player. Shannon went on to win a further three games during the day's play and her newly found confidence will stand her in good stead for the remainder of the season. Despite his limited experience of playing outside of the Southend and District Table Tennis League, Sid Dorn acquitted himself splendidly, winning two matches including an outstanding five set win against the young player ranked No. 6 in the Essex Under 13 Boys.

The outstanding performance of the day came from thirteen year old Sam Lowman, who remained unbeaten throughout and secured nine wins in his singles matches, his combination of fast attacking play and effective serving proving too much for his opponents. Sam has only recently moved out of the Under 13 category but is already making his mark in the Under 15 and Cadet groups.

Sam, Shannon and Sid showed great teamwork, supporting and encouraging each other to play to the very best of their abilities. They were a credit, both to Hullbridge TTC and to the Southend and District Table Tennis League.
